IVF Might Replace Natural Conception…Although It May Increase Birth Defects

July 22, 2013 by Roz 2 Comments

IVF Might Replace Natural Conception I www.realfoodfamily.com
Here is a prime example of how unfocused and ridiculous scientific research can be.

I just read an article from the New York Daily News claiming that some researchers are predicting “natural sexual reproduction could become obsolete”. Veterinarian John Yovich claims that sex is an “inefficient” process of reproduction because eventually in-vitro fertilization (IVF) will have a 100% success rate.

Ummmm….

I have so many problems with this. Where do I even begin??

First of all, I don’t appreciate that science views humans as animals- notice the veterinarian making the claims here. Just because some cows are getting pregnant every time they get IVF, doesn’t mean that humans should consider God’s creation of sex for reproduction as obsolete. Even if we set the importance of marital intimacy aside, I don’t think science is in any place to decide that artificial conception is equal to or better than natural conception. In fact, it seems that IVF may not be as safe for the children being conceived as natural reproduction…which brings me to my next point.

Right next to this article claiming that IVF might be the future of human reproduction, this study claims that IVF may increase the risk of birth defects and this report says that IVF may be linked to a higher rate of mental retardation.

I started this post by saying scientific research is unfocused. You can find a scientific study proving something while another study disproves it. As my chemical biologist brother likes to point out: the more scientists discover, the more they realize how much they DON’T KNOW! That is why I choose to follow ancestral wisdom in many areas of life. There are certain food and health practices that have been followed for thousands of years because our ancestors passed knowledge on to us based on their actual life experience- not the experience of rats in a lab. Quite often as research in nutrition and health continues, science confirms the truths of this ancestral wisdom that we would have known all along.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that science hasn’t vastly improved many areas of human health, especially in the past century, but we are living in an age where scientific research is very sporadic, and I think we need to constantly step back and evaluate all the “scientific evidence” being thrown at us.

My point here is that scientists are actually getting paid to research if having sex to get pregnant is going to be necessary in the near future, and acting like this would be a great improvement for the human race. I don’t mean to sound like Grandma here, but what is this world coming to?! It’s almost as if they want the population to become more infertile so that more IVF research and procedures (sales) can be done.

I think the scientific community has a completely wrong approach when it comes to fertility research. Why not focus more on helping men and women increase fertility naturally? But I guess nobody makes any real money that way.

If you conceived and had children via IVF, then praise God! You have children and I personally believe that all children that enter this world are part of God’s plan- no matter how they get here…

Psalm 139:14-18

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
 My frame was not hidden from you
    when I was made in the secret place,
    when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed body;
    all the days ordained for me were written in your book
    before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
    How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
    they would outnumber the grains of sand

I’m sure, though, that if you or someone you love had the opportunity to learn about and try following a fertility-specific diet, you would have tried it before seeking IVF.

Infertility is an extremely painful and sensitive subject for families dealing with it, and I don’t want to downplay that. I do, however, want to encourage those wishing to become pregnant to discover the ancestral wisdom regarding fertility. Fertility was one of the top priorities in traditional food diets from primitive cultures around the world, as studied by Dr. Weston A Price.

“The provision of special pregnancy and preconception diets to mothers-to-be was a universal characteristic of the healthy traditional groups studied by Weston Price. In some cases, these groups provided special preconception foods to fathers-to-be as well.” – from the Weston A. Price Foundation

In my experience, the medical community pays almost no attention to the influence diet can have on fertility besides telling patients to “eat a healthy diet”. (What the heck does that mean?) But I also have worked with and met many parents who became pregnant after changing their diet and focusing on nutrient-dense foods that enhance fertility. It’s about so much more than just “eating healthy”. Women wishing to become pregnant should make an effort to understand their reproductive cycles and ensure their reproductive health.

The best resource I can recommend for discovering more about reproductive health and enhancing fertility with diet is the book “Garden of Fertility” by Katie Singer. I used the wisdom in this book to conceive both of my children.

I also encourage you to start cooking with my Recipes for Fertility, Pregnancy, Lactation and Growing Kids.

So what do you think…is sex the way God intended it to be something that will soon be obsolete?
