fake coyotes on the beach ~ Real Food Family (this is not a joke)
This is a really embarrassing story.

Today I was driving along the coast after dropping my daughter off at her homeschool co-op and I saw coyotes on the beach. I knew we had a coyote “problem” here, but coyotes on the beach at 9am is especially weird. Not only that, but they looked like they were ready to attack something in the water.

My heart started pumping and I swung a U-ie over a double yellow line so I could catch this rare sighting. I pulled over on the small shoulder, popped the hazards on and grabbed my phone to get some photos. Then a funny thing happened. After a few shots I realized they weren’t moving.

What the heck?!

I whistled at them. They didn’t move. Many cars drove by offering me some strange looks. “There are freakin’ coyotes on the beach! What’s going on?!”

After a minute I realized that they were not real. (Wow. That took way too long to figure out.)

Again…What the heck?!

Apparently this is a way to prevent an over-population of beach dwelling seagulls that are contaminating the water there. Apparently the entire city knows because it’s been in the newspaper. Apparently I’m the only idiot  one in the city who thought that this was real:

Wow.

Maybe I miss the homestead a little too much.

For the record, I was a couple hundred yards away from these guys…about double the distance from where the first photo in this post was taken. They looked real. I swear.

These photos are from the OC Register. Read the story here.

Now it’s your turn to share your “special” moments. 🙂
